The Old Station - Location Map
Description
A converted former Highland Railway station adjacent to the existing railway station in Newtonmore.
The station was built in 1893 in a beautiful Victorian style and is now a listed building. It replaced the original wooden building (built when the railway was constructed in 1865), which was burnt down by a spark from a passing steam train.
The building is very well equipped. The master bedroom is very spacious with a double bed and ample drawer/hanging space. It boasts its own on-suite complete with shower.
The sitting room was the original station masters office. It retains the station safe and the solid fuel burner, which makes for a very comforting return after a walk into the hills on a snowy day. There is a TV and video/DVD player with lots of viewing material for children and families.
Where the old platform canopy used to be is now a lovely long conservatory, which doubles up as the main eating area next to the kitchen, comfortably seating up to 8 people.
The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, kettle and a full set of kitchen utensils.
